After yesterdays windsurfing gear wrecking day - hole in sail and board :( and being much colder again today it was time for a change of activity so after breakfast we drive to Felixstowe Ferry wrap up warm, take a picnic and decide to go and see if we could spot the now famous Red Breasted Goose along the banks of the River Deben :) We start by walking past the Ferry Sailing Club to the ferry jetty as the tide starts to go out and is really whizzing past !!! After a quick look around the boatyard we head up river followed by a steady stream of 'birders' with an expensive array of telescopes and binoculars all heading to see the goose in the fields by Holmhill Farm !!! After about a mile we spot a large flock of Brent geese feeding in the marshes by the edge of the river :) A man has his telescope set up and I am lucky enough to get a quick glimpse of the very pretty Red Breasted Goose before they all take off - a spectatular sight :) and fly off inland to graze on a field. We continue to Kings Fleet where wooden ships were built hundreds of years ago and where I caught some lovely tench when I was a lad - that seems like hundreds of years ago too !!! :( There were a few poeple fishing there today - one spinning for pike and a couple carp fishing :) As it was now lunch time we stopped by a private bridge near the end of the Fleet and had our sandwich surrounded by loads of swans feeding in the fields. We head towards Falkenham enjoying the blue sunny day and big Suffolk skies :) but birds are a bit thin on the ground apart from 4 curlews in a field miles from the river !!! We skirt past Kirton through a large field covered in loose straw growing carrots and arrive at our friends David and Maggie Coles in Trimley St. Martin after covering over 5 miles and being out 3 hours for a coffee and a piece of cake and to check my board which David is repairing :) and they were out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( Being a bit knackered we walked to the end of their road and waited for the bus to take us the 3 miles back to Felixstowe. When it arrived it was a double decker :) and we haven't been on one of them for years :) and the only sad thing being it cost £2.70 each! :( should have walked !!! We got off at Solar (supermarket where our son Dan works) and borrowed his car to collect our van from the Ferry. We then went back to Trimley and lucky for us David and Maggie were home sadly all the cake went yesterday but the tea was nice :) We stopped off at the end of Cordy's Lane,Trimley St Mary to watch the sunset over Felixstowe docks - it was fantastic , very cold but I got some nice shots :) So a great day out enjoying the sunshine and the weather is going to get really mild this week - spring is in the air :)

There are some pics in the second half of this album :)
